Lead producer at Candle & Bell, Maria Caruana Galizia, talks to Rebecca Hardy at High Life North Magazine about running a production company, her beginnings in Television and what she hopes to achieve in thee future

We’re pleased to announce that our comedy feature film MARWELL, written and directed by Benjamin Bee, has been granted a development award by the BFI Film Fund. The award will allow us to continue working on the script and begin to raise finance to make the film.
Ashraf has been a political refugee in London for some 30 years, content with spending his days in his study or at his local social club. One day he receives a phone call from his friend in Palestine, telling him that his son Moataz has been fatally wounded in a protest. His friend pleads with Ashraf to return home.
Producer Maria Caruana Galizia recently completed a 7 month professional development programme with Creative England called the Creative Producer Initiative. The initiative was designed to help emerging producers generate and develop projects, strengthen their skills and learn more about developing projects for a variety of formats and platforms.
Candle & Bell are pleased to announce that they are producing another short film called Metroland. The film has been selected as part of Creative England’s iShorts funding initiative. Metroland is one of three short films the company is producing this summer. It is written and directed by award winning, Newcastle based filmmaker Benjamin Bee. Benjamin’s previous film Step Right Up was long-listed for a BAFTA.
